Painted on a 12” x 9” (30 x 23 cm.) wood panel, Let’s Have Lights is framed in thinly milled poplar.
This little tree has been my neighbor for many years. We have weathered many seasons together.
At night, when everything else falls into shadow, this little tree does the talking. Set against a deep, velvety dark with just a few distant stars and house lights, this tree glows with thick, impasto dabs of sapphire, ruby, turquoise, gold and white. The paint itself becomes the light - each ornament a single, expressive brushstroke that shimmers and reflects onto the ground below. A white gutter edge on the right anchors the scene, a quiet reminder that this bit of magic is right outside the door.
This painting was selected for the 51st Annual Mark Twain Library Art Exhibition in December, 2023. Own an original piece of juried art!
