— About the Artist —
Jonathan Schubert
(b. 1974)
For 30 years, Jonathan’s life has been defined by sound. As a professional bass trombonist, he has performed in orchestras and commercial ensembles along the East Coast. Five years ago, that lifelong musicality found a new instrument - oil paint.
A self-taught artist, Jonathan brings a musician’s discipline and sensitivity to the studio. His work is not about perfectly rendering a scene, but about capturing its cadence - the fleeting light at sunset, the quiet solitude of a figure in a field, the atmosphere between notes. Working in a modern impressionist style, he paints with loose, expressive brushwork and a warm, luminous palette that invites the viewer to linger.
In keeping with a craftsman’s ethos, every piece is created with intention from the ground up. Jonathan paints exclusively on wood panels and handcrafts his own custom frames for each painting. Each piece is a signed, original, one-of-one work.
Jonathan’s paintings have been exhibited in galleries along the East Coast (mostly New England) and are held in private collections across the country.
