In 1991, I was sent to the Yucatan. It was a curious and beautiful place, but I was never so alone. Frozen somewhere between child and adult, I had my first beer there. Milo, my guide, pitied me a good deal and also chartered a small boat for a day to visit some coastal islands.
The board on which this piece is painted is heavy poster cardstock, found in Uncle Donald's basement after he passed away. He really never got to see my paintings. The frame is refurbished, from the same era, 1991, and once housed an old photo by my grandfather.
Acrylic on gessoed board. Painted from a photo in studio, 2022.
16 × 22 in. / 40 × 56 cm.
